Pet Firework Fear

Pheromones can be described as a means of scent communication between members of the same species. They are chemicals released from the surface of an individual’s body into the environment to send a message to others which results in a change in their behaviour.

Territorial pheromones

Cats are often seen using facial pheromones to familiarise themselves with their environment by rubbing their faces on items. Surfaces that have been marked with these pheromones are seen by cats as familiar and safe.

Feliway® mimics the properties of the feline facial pheromone and helps cats feel safe and secure in their environment.

Appeasing pheromone

In mammals, all lactating females release a substance called ‘appeasing’ pheromone which helps to reassure their offspring. The pheromone enhances the attachment between the mother and her offspring providing reassurance and comfort.

As puppies explore their environment they encounter new experiences which set off emotional reactions. They tend to react by looking for contact with their mother and the appeasing pheromone helps stabilise their emotions.

D.A.P.® has the same effect as the natural appeasing pheromone and helps comfort and reassure puppies and adult dogs.
